2018 Holiday Helps in Washington County
KONY “Coins for Kids” provides Christmas assistance for families with children ages 2-17 in Wash. Co. who qualify because of need. A referral letter from the school, clergy leader, or from a social service agency is required. Applications are being taken Nov. 26th – 30th at the Woodward Building, 95 West Tabernacle Street. The application center is open from 9 am – 5 pm Mon. & Fri., and from 9 am – 7 pm on Tue. Wed. Thurs. There is a limit of 3 years of assistance over a 10-year period. For more information go to: www.coinsforkids.net. After 3 years, families may apply for assistance through Toys for Tots (see below). Families may not apply for assistance at both Coins for Kids and Toys for Tots.
Toys for Tots will provide toys to those who apply online at www.toysfortots.org. Families should apply for Christmas assistance (first) through KONY “Coins for Kids” if they have not already met the 3-year max. limit. Families may not apply for assistance at both Coins for Kids and Toys for Tots.
Christmas day dinner will be served at the St. George Elks Club, 630 W. 1250 N. There are two different serving times: 11:30 am to 1:00 pm and again from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
Santa will be there with some Christmas gifts available for the children.
Sign up will start from November 26th onward. To sign up for the dinner, go to the Community *Soup Kitchen at the Grace Episcopal Church (Mon.-Fri.) at 1072 E. 900 S. in SG.
*The Community *Soup Kitchen serves a hot meal Mon.–Fri. from 11:30 am–1:00 pm.
On the 2nd Friday and last Friday of each month, they provide food boxes as well.
For a hot Sunday meal, go to Solomon’s Porch at 1495 Blackridge Dr. #A240 in St. Geo. from 12:30-1:30 pm. They also have food boxes available Fridays from 3 pm sharp.
Switchpoint Community Resource Center also operates the local food pantry Mon.–Fri. from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm located at 948 N 1300 W St. George. Call 435-628-9310
Salvation Army, 803 S. Bluff Street (KMART parking lot area), 435-275-4975 can assist with their small food pantry as well as some rental assistance for those who qualify. The donations they receive from the bell ringers & kettles go to support many Christmas efforts in the community.
For clothing needs, please contact your school counselor. They have clothing vouchers for Deseret Industries, the Catholic Thrift store, and the Switchpoint CRC Thrift store.
HEAT (Home Energy Assistance Target) program. Apply now for help with your gas and electrical bills. You don’t need to be behind on your bill. Call 435-652-9643.
RENTAL ASSISTANCE: The St. George Housing Authority has an emergency rental assistance grant application (once per lifetime), for special circumstances.
